Andrew van Baal
Chair of the Clean Campus Commission
Andrew van Baal (he/him) is a sophomore from Grand Rapids, MI pursuing a double major in Political Science and Environment. Andrew was a part of the previous CSG Executive Administration, serving as an intern to the former CSG Vice President. During his tenure in this position, he was able to collaborate with the Environmental Justice Commission to spearhead projects such as the free student distribution of menstrual cups and counter compost bins, the Clothing Exchange, and the Grocery Bag Recycling Drive. Andrew is also a member of the Student Sustainability Coalition, a student organization affiliated with the Graham Sustainability Institute, whose work includes promoting a sustainable campus culture and elevating campus-wide student sustainability efforts, missions that Andrew plans to bring to CSG through his role as the Chair of the Clean Campus Commission. The term “environmental justice” is a guiding philosophy for Andrew as he approaches his role, making sure that sustainability advocacy on campus addresses the needs of the communities most adversely affected by environmental policy in historical and modern contexts. Andrew wants to be an open resource to all seeking to get involved in campus sustainability advocacy, so please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns.
