Executive Committee Report - October 3, 2023

The executive committee has issued the following report for the October 3, 2023 Assembly Meeting:


Executive Updates:

Upcoming Events: World Bites (10/8, 3:00-6:00pm, the Diag), Fall Break Airbus, voter registration training (10/4, 5:00-6:00pm, Zoom), Take Your Professor to Lunch, Operation Graduation, Hydration Stations, DPSS Information Outreach Event (10/19, 2:00-4:00pm, the Diag)


Programs and Events:

  • World Bites - Sunday, October 8th

    • This will take place on Sunday, October 8th from 3:00-6:00 PM on the Diag. The event will feature various identity-based student organizations highlighting their favorite foods from their culture, and will also include student performances on stage.

  • Graduation Operation Program

    • The interest form for our semesterly Graduation Operation program was sent to students in the All-Campus email yesterday. Through this program, students have the opportunity to receive free graduation gowns, which will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. This year, the Programming team will be distributing gowns in sustainable packages!

  • Take Your Professor to Lunch Program

    • This program provides vouchers for free lunch for a group of up to four students and at least one professor or GSI. The interest form was circulated to students in the All-Campus email yesterday, and vouchers will be distributed to students this month on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  • Information Outreach Event - Thursday, October 19th

    • SMPSEC chair and policy advisor Lauren Bleyer is working with DPSS on an information outreach event, which will be take place on October 19th from 2:00-4:00pm in the Diag. The goal of this event is to highlight resources for campus safety and encourage an open dialogue with DPSS officers for students to share their needs and get their questions answered about campus safety!

  • Donation Bins

    • Calculator and iclicker donation bins are in the works! Donation bins for graduation gowns are in the CSG office.

  • Hydration Stations

    • CSG will partner with Fraternity & Sorority Life to help provide hydration stations for home football games.

Policy Team:

  • Policy Director Gwen Tatara is conducting research on various topics, including Wi-Fi at the Big House, off-campus housing affordability, as well as test prep programs.

  • Policy Advisor on DEIJ Nneka Obiekwu is connecting with various student organizations on campus for collaborations on her future programming, as well as to better understand how CSG can help support identity-based student organizations.

  • SMPSEC is working with various organizations on campus to see how CSG can support education about contraceptive use and accessibility.

  • Policy Advisor on Sustainability Sayoni Bandyopadhyay has worked on improving our existing internal event planning resource documents to include a guide on incorporating sustainability in CSG events.

  • Policy Advisor on Mental Health and Wellbeing Aditi Vijendra is conducting research on the possibility of a wellbeing equipment check-out program. She has been connecting with Big 10 schools to see how similar programs have been implemented.

  • Director of Government Relations Akhila Mullapudi is working on a Dinners for Democracy initiative with Turn Up Turnout (TUT) on affordable housing policy. She has also been coordinating for the upcoming Assembly on the Diag event for voter registration services. Sign up to get trained to register voters this Wednesday at 5pm here!

  • Director of Internal Relations Peter Tam is connecting with Michigan Photography this week to plan the reiteration of our subsidized headshot program, which offers free, professional headshots to students. More details to come on this soon!
