The Central Executive
The Executive Branch of the CSG is comprised of an elected President and Vice President, along with several additional appointed executive officials. The President and Executive Branch serve as chief executive of, and chief advocate for, the student body. Through the creation of executive commissions, appointment of executive officials, and student advocacy, the Executive Branch works to best represent the student body.
The Central Legislature
The Legislative Branch, made up of the Student Assembly as well as the University Council, serves to collectively represent the student voice at the university and to make decisions for the organization in a deliberative manner. The Assembly is responsible for drafting and passing resolutions, while the University Council broadly serves to facilitate open communication and collaboration between the multiple levels of student government at the University.
The Central Student Judiciary
The Central Student Judiciary (CSJ) is the judicial branch of the Central Student Government. CSJ is the highest adjudicating student body at the University of Michigan, often hearing cases involving election disputes, CSG constitutional issues, and reviews of decisions made by student groups on campus. Although CSJ requires potential parties to make a good faith effort to handle conflicts within their own organization, the Court is available for both arbitration and to hear challenges to a student group’s decisions.
